Clients often ask me to recommend a book or two, so I thought I’d list a few of my favorite here.  These books are not necessarily of the “self help” variety, just books I’ve enjoyed, and that have helped me deepen my practice as a counselor and a person.  Also–these links lead to amazon.com, but you could probably order them from any bookstore you prefer.

Changing for Good, Prochaska et. al. These folks help work you through a behavior change using the evidence-based Stages of Change model.

No Death, No Fear by Thich Nhat Hanh. A wonderful set of Dharma talks on the concepts of existence, death and mindfulness.

She’s Not There: A life in two genders by Jennifer Finney Boylan. Chronicles one MtF person’s transition, including the reactions of her friends, family and coworkers.

Passionate Marriage by David Schnarch. The gold standard in couple’s communication books, and advice on how to repair a damaged relationship.

Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana. A straightforward introduction to mindful living and meditation. A great starting off point.
